Portland, OR, and Edmonton, Alberta (October 5, 2026) – Kashi Clinical Laboratories (KCL), a leader in histocompatibility and immunodiagnostics, has made a strategic investment into Transcriptome Sciences, Inc. (TSI), an Alberta-based biotechnology company specializing in molecular diagnostics and machine learning in organ transplantation. The investment will enable advancements in research and accelerate Molecular Microscope® Diagnostic System (MMDx) utilization to support discovery of mechanisms, clinical trials, and clinical decision-making to improve patient outcomes.
Founded in 2008, TSI is a commercial spin-off from the Alberta Transplant Applied Genomics Centre (ATAGC) at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada. Expanding on the groundbreaking molecular research conducted at ATAGC, TSI has developed novel technologies and a proprietary database of clinical, histological, and gene expression data, which serves as the foundation for MMDx, a genomic diagnostic tool that analyzes tissue biopsies from organ transplants to assess organ disease states, accurately detect rejection, and assess effects of treatment. Compared to traditional diagnostics, MMDx reveals the biological mechanism driving the injury, and supports more precise, personalized treatment decisions and improved clinical confidence.
