Portland, OR – Kashi Clinical Laboratories (KCL), a leading provider of high complexity clinical diagnostic testing to hospitals, long-term care facilities and transplant centers around the world, is pleased to announce presentations of a technologist case study and director abstract at the 39th Annual HLA & Transplant Workshop in Savannah, Georgia.
Russ Martin, CHS (ACHI), Technical Manager, delivered a case study titled “Detection of Loss of Heterozygosity in a Haploidentical Hematopoietic Cell Transplant Recipient – Challenges in Tumor Cell Isolation and Chimerism Analysis”. Loss of heterozygosity (LOH) can be a crucial factor in determining relapse especially after haploidentical transplantation, where the recipient has only a partial match to the donor. Utilizing advanced technologies, KCL’s experienced team analyzes recipient and donor cells to identify allelic imbalances and LOH and delivers crucial insights and recommendations to help identify patients at risk of relapse and guide timely interventions and treatment strategies.
Founder and Chief Scientific Officer, Dr. Zahra Kashi, presented at the Directors’ Abstract Session on the challenges of HLA typing in transplanted kidneys when donor HLA typing is unavailable. Accurate identification of donor-specific HLA antibodies (DSA) is crucial for post-transplant monitoring, necessitating access to donor HLA typing for proper DSA determination. This case highlighted the inherent difficulties in HLA typing due to the exchange of migratory leukocytes in transplanted kidneys. The findings underscore the complexities of post-transplant DSA identification in the absence of donor HLA data and emphasize the critical need for comprehensive donor-recipient HLA information transfer to ensure optimal long-term patient management.
One Lambda’s annual HLA & Transplant workshop serves as a platform for directors, clinicians, and technologists to share cutting-edge research, engage in challenging discussions, and showcase innovative technologies. By fostering a dynamic exchange of knowledge and collaborations, organizers hope to accelerate the pace of innovation, with the goal of improving the lives of transplant patients around the globe.
